Where is Ridley filmed? The house, Framley, and all the filming locations

Set in the fictional town of Framley in Northern England, Ridley was filmed at several locations in Greater Manchester.

Framley town

Created by Paul Matthew Thompson, also known for Vera, the show centres on Alex Ridley, played by Adrian Dunbar, a retired detective inspector who returns as a consultant.

The Ridley locations

Ridley filmed
Benthams Jewellers in the first episode of the second season, “A Sleeping Tiger”, was filmed at Argenti Jewellers.

This is an independent jewellery store located in the heart of Ashton-under-Lyne, about six miles east of Manchester city centre.

Copelton District Police Force
The Copelton District Police Force station exterior is the Bolton Magistrates’ Court in Le Mans Crescent, Bolton.

Part of the Bolton Civic Centre, this Grade II-listed building, completed in 1939, was also used as a filming location for the Cedarfield police station in the 2020 Netflix series The Stranger.

The city of Framley in Ridley

Framley city in Ridley
The establishing shot of Framley, topped by a church, is Mossley, offering a quintessential Northern English town atmosphere.

With a population of approximately 10,000, the town is known for its scenic valleys and historic mills.

The Ridley house

Ridley house
Ridley's lake house was filmed at the Watergrove Reservoir, located near Rochdale in the Valley of Watergrove.

The reservoir, constructed in the 1930s to supply drinking water to the surrounding area, is surrounded by walking trails and open countryside.

New Bridge Inn
The New Bridge Inn is a real pub located on Micklehurst Road in Mossley.

New Earth Street Mossley
The street with a steep slope is New Earth Street, also in Mossley.

Marlings Jazz Club
Unfortunately, it’s not possible to visit Marlings Jazz Club to hear Alex singing.

According to Time Out, the interior was a set built at the large Bolton Civic Centre complex, featuring a crescent-shaped façade.

Some other interiors were also filmed here in this iconic Bolton landmark.

Moss Bank Farm
The stud farm is Moss Bank Farm in Astley. The main residence is set in 12 acres of gardens, and the farm features an 18th-century homestead.

In 2024, the estate was for sale with a price tag of £4,295,000.

The Green Room Altrincham
The bar at the beginning of the third episode, “Fool for Love”, is The Green Room, a popular live music bar located in Altrincham.

Bromiley's Farmhouse Belmont
The house is Bromiley's Farmhouse, a heritage building in Belmont.

This site is a Grade II-listed, stone-built farmhouse that dates back to the 17th century.

Circle cocktail bar Bolton
Circle is a cocktail bar located in Bolton town centre at Nelson Square.

Old Town Hall in Oldham
The office building exterior is the Old Town Hall in Oldham, a Victorian complex completed in 1841.

Following a £32.5 million restoration, it now houses a multiplex Odeon cinema, several restaurants including Nando’s and Costa Coffee, and a food hall known as The Egyptian Room.

Hartshead Pike
One of the episode’s final scenes was filmed at Hartshead Pike, a historic monument and viewpoint of the Manchester skyline located near Royton.

The structure, originally built in the 18th century and rebuilt in the 19th century, served as both a landmark and a signalling point.

Colden Vale in the fourth episode

Colden Vale
In the fourth episode, “The Memory Jar”, set in the fictional town of Colden Vale, The Two Tubs pub in Bury is featured.

It is one of the oldest pubs in the town, dating back to the early 18th century.

Colden Vale Village Hall
The Colden Vale Village Hall is Blackburne Hall, a community centre located behind the Church of St Mary the Virgin, also in Bury.

Renton Hospital
The Castle Armoury, a historic 19th-century drill hall and military facility in Bury, served as the Renton Psychiatric Hospital.

Built in 1868, this Grade II-listed building has long served as the headquarters for local Army Reserve units.

The Globe Inn is a traditional pub located in Wardle, near Rochdale, Greater Manchester.

Ridley mill
A crime scene was filmed with the famous Swizzels Matlow factory in New Mills, Derbyshire, as a background.

Founded in 1928, the factory operates in a 150-year-old Victorian textile building situated along the Peak Forest Canal.
