Where was Aladdin filmed? Agrabah & all the Filming Locations

Disney’s new live-action remake of the classic 1992 animated film Aladdin, takes us back to the magical land of One Thousand and One Nights, before oil wars and several Middle East crises ruined somehow the classic romantic imagery of the Arabian world.

Most of Aladdin was filmed at Longcross Studios in Surrey (the UK) and Arborfield Studios near Reading. However, the scenes in the desert were actually shot in the stunning Wadi Rum area in Jordan.

This fairy tale story, directed by Guy Ritchie, stars Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine and Mena Massoud plays the poor thief Aladdin. The main cast is completed by Will Smith, performing the genie of the wonderful lamp.

Welcome to Agrabah and our guide to the filming locations of Aladdin.

Where is Agrabah?

Agrabah location
The design of the fictional city of Aladdin, Agrabah, is obviously heavily influenced by Arabia and the Muslim world.

Production designer Gemma Jackson (who also worked in Game of Thrones), said in this promotional video that she was inspired by a large variety of locations.

The town features elements from Morocco's colorful streets, Istanbul's Ottoman architecture, the Taj Mahal, and the magnificent palaces of India's Jaipur.

The city of Agrabah
All the streets, the square, and the palace of Agrabah were recreated on a large and detailed set built in Longcross Studios in England.

The Artemis Fowl house from the 2020 Disney movie was also built here.

Aladdin Wadi Rum
Jordan's Wadi Rum Nature Preserve is a very popular location for filmmakers.

It has been featured in many other productions like The Martian, Prometheus, or Star Wars spin-off Rogue One
