Set in the small town of Wylie in Texas, Love & Death was entirely filmed on location in Texas.
The plot is based on a real crime that occurred in 1980 after a churchgoing woman axed an extramarital affair.

The series stars Elizabeth Olsen (Marvel's super-powered Wanda Maximoff, aka Scarlet Witch) as Candy Montgomery.
Rounding out the main cast are Lily Rabe (The Undoing) as Betty Gore, Jesse Plemons (Breaking Bad, The Power of the Dog) as Betty's husband, Allan Gore, and Patrick Fugit (Outcast) as Candy's husband, Pat Montgomery.

The Love & Death Locations
The scenes on the streets of Wylie were filmed on Smithville's Main Street.
Located in a rural area of eastern Bastrop County between Houston and Austin, Smithville is known for its quaint downtown and historic homes.

The United Methodist Church of Lucas is St Peter's Church of Coupland.
The temple was built in 1906 by German and Swiss settlers.

However, the interior was filmed at the Hutto Lutheran Church.
Completed in 1902 by a Swedish community, this church features the magnificent stained glass windows that appear in the choir scenes.

The Love and Death house
Allan and Betty Gore's house is located at 9403 Queenswood Drive in the Castlewood Forest neighborhood in Austin.
According to Redfin, this four-bedroom, 1,663 square feet property constructed in 1971 has an estimated market value of about $USD 600,000.
For the series, most of the home's interiors were filmed on a soundstage in Kyle, a town located on the outskirts of Austin.

The website Tales From The Collection revealed that the diner where Candy and Allan meet several times was filmed at Lil Charlie's in Lockhart.
The crew repainted the restaurant for the shoot.

A car detailing service located across the street was transformed into a vintage auto repair workshop.

The bar where Candy and her friend Sherry Cleckler (played by Krysten Ritter) are having a drink after the Volleyball game is the Schultz Saloon in Seguin.
The Wylie High School gymnasium was filmed at an undisclosed location in Austin.

The screening of Grease was filmed at the Palace Theatre in downtown Seguin.
This Art Deco theater was rebuilt after being severely damaged in 1946.

Candy's lecture club meets at the Dr. Eugene Clark Library in Lockhart.
The exterior of this gorgeous library, completed in 1899, is the dome-topped red-brick building that appears in the background of Candy and Allan's restaurant.

The Montgomery home is located at 5804 Westslope Drive in Austin.
Built in 1963, this four-bedroom and approximately 2,500 square feet Mid-century modern style house has an estimated market value of about $USD 1,100,000.

The Back Door Café is a real bar also located on Main Street in Smithville.
Many movies and TV shows have been filmed in this town, including True Grit, Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life, and the Amazon series Panic.

Saegert Middle School in Segui doubles as the fictional Plainview Elementary School in a brief scene in the first episode, "The Huntress".

The metal bridge is the La Grange Bridge over the Colorado River in Fayette County.

The University Inn in San Marcos served as the Dallas Continental Inn.
As you can see, some CGI was used for the entrance of the motel, but the interior with the pool is pretty much the same as in the show.

The Como Motel is the Cottonwood Inn Motel in La Grange.
A bit of CGI was called for to bring the Dallas Continental location together with the Como Motel - which is actually an hour and a half away.
Also featured in the Fear The Walking Dead series, you can stay in a double room at this two-star accommodation for about US$70 per night.

The roller coaster scene in the second episode, "Encounters", was filmed at the ZDT’s Amusement Park in Seguin.

The Royal Coach Inn in Dallas, where the Marriage Encounter workshop takes place, was filmed at the Inn Of The Hills Hotel and conference center in Kerrville.
The medieval-looking exterior, inspired by the old Royal Coach Inn in Houston, was created via digital effects.

In the third episode, "Stepping Stone", Candy and Allan meet at the June Hill Pape Riverwalk Trail along the banks of the Colorado River in Bastrop.

This location appears again in the fifth episode when Candy and her lawyer, Don Crowder (played by Tom Pelphrey), go to Houston.

This beautiful venue, which opened in 1915, has undergone several renovations over the years.

The funeral in the fifth episode, "The Arrest", was filmed at the New Sweden Lutheran Church in Manor, which was built between 1921 and 1923.

The Collin County Government Center is the new Williamson County District Courts justice center in Georgetown.

But the old courthouse in the sixth episode, "The Big Top", is the historic Williamson County Courthouse, also in Georgetown.
Crowned with an impressive dome, this Beaux Arts building was completed in 1911 and completely restored to its former glory in 2006.
