Where was Glass Onion filmed? The House & the Island Location in Greece

Posted by

In this new Knives Out series movie, Daniel Craig returns as eccentric Detective Benoit Blanc, tasked with solving a murder mystery in a stunning Greek villa.

Set in a tech house located on the fictional island of Pisceshite, Glass Onion was primarily filmed in Greece, but also in Serbia.

The film cast

The story revolves around an old friend's reunion that starts as a vacation but turns into a nightmare when one of the guests passes away.

As its predecessor, the 2019 film Knives Out, filmed in a house in Massachusetts, the sequel comes with a stellar lineup: the cast includes Edward Norton, Kate Hudson, Dave Bautista, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, and the Outer Banks series star, Madelyn Cline.

The Glass Onion Locations

Cluedo House
But before setting sail for Greece, let's start from the beginning. In May 2020, Connecticut Governor Claire Debella received an elaborate puzzle box at her opulent mansion.

This sequence was filmed in a seven-bedroom house boasting about 9,000 square feet, located in the Sterling Ridge neighborhood of Harrison, NY.

Built in 1940, this spacious mansion has an estimated market price of six million dollars.

Glass Onion island
The meeting point before heading to Miles' private island retreat was filmed in the Spetses Island harbor.

Located near the Peloponnese peninsula in the Greek mainland, this gorgeous hideaway is inhabited by only about 4,000 souls.

Poseidonion Grand Hotel
The restaurant of the five-star Poseidonion Grand Hotel that appears in the background of Spetses harbor is also featured in this scene pictured.

Spetses doubled as Kyopeli Island in the Netflix film The Lost Daughter, set on an off-the-beaten-path Greek island.

Aquarius yacht
The production rented a large boat for a few days to shoot the scenes in which the hosts are brought to the island.

The posh superyacht Aquarius is a 150-feet (46 meters) vessel equipped with a jacuzzi and five staterooms accommodating ten guests.

You can also rent it for about US$230,000 (EUR 215,000) per week.

Pisceshite Island

Pisceshite
Nestled on the fictional Pisceshite Island on the Jonic Sea, in the movie, Miles’s villa seems to be right on the water.

However, the house was CGI'd into the landscape at Korakia Beach in the Kranidi area.

Korakia beach
Korakia beach is not on an island, but in an eastern section of the Peloponnese peninsula, near the chic village of Porto Cheli.

On this beach is located the Amanzoe Beach Club, which is situated about three miles away from the actual resort where Miles's villa was filmed.

The Glass Onion House

Miles Bron's quirky tech house was partially filmed at Villa 20, a massive mansion with panoramic views of the Aegean Sea.

Perched over the hills, this luxurious complex boasts six pools, a spa, and everything else you would expect from a dream home.

Glass Onion location
The layout is distributed around the monumental central staircase on different levels, with studio bedrooms for 18 guests opening onto private terraces.

We don't know the price of renting the entire villa, but booking one of the impressive suites at this resort costs about USD$2,000 per night.

Glass Onion Greece
Villa 20 is part of the Amanzoe Resort, which is managed by the prestigious hospitality company Amand.

Amand manages a collection of 34 luxury hotels, resorts, and residences in 20 countries around the world.

A Knives Out Mystery Drehorte
The Glass Onion dome was CGI'd into the top of the villa. The interior of this futuristic room and the main hall of the house, where a lot of action takes place, were built on the sets at the studios in Belgrade, Serbia.

Conde Nast Traveler reported that the cast and crew spent seven weeks in Belgrade, while the shoot in Greece took about four weeks.

770 Park Avenue New York
The exterior of James Bond's -sorry- Mr. Benoit Blanc's penthouse is a CGI composition inspired on the terrace of one of the top apartments at 770 Park Avenue in New York.

Built in 1930, this elegant Renaissance-styled 19-stories skyscraper was designed by the extraordinary Italian-American architect Rosario Candela.

The real two-bedroom penthouse has an estimated market price of sixteen million dollars.

That terrace doesn't look anything like the building at 770 Park Avenue New York City, and neither do the buildings in the background look like NYC.

You can find images of Blanc's penthouse by Googling "770 Park Avenue balcony" and then looking under "images". Adding the word "balcony" is necessary to get the necessary images. Thanks to Atlas of Wonders for the excellent research, as always.

There seems to be a work of art by Anthony James in the film—worth including.

Incorrect. Miles' villa was on a beach that was created using CGI, inspired by the beaches of the Peloponnese. It was not Kranidi, Korakia, or the beach of the Aman Hotel.
