Loki of Asgard, the God of Mischief, has to do mischievous things. In the Marvel series, now back for season two, this character representing chaos is inserted in a world of bureaucrats.
Loki was primarily filmed in and around Atlanta, Georgia, although some additional filming for the second season occurred in England.

The trickster lord of Norse mythology is joining the ranks of the Time Variance Authority, the agency that oversees the sacred timeline and maintains the order.
Tom Hiddleston and MCU newcomer, Owen Wilson (co-starring as Agent Mobius), previously worked together in the 2011 film Midnight in Paris, which also involved time travel.
The show, which is returning for season two, is linking the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movies Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022) and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023).
Welcome to our unpruned guide to the filming locations of Loki, spiced with some more interesting and varied stuff. We will soon update this list with the new second season locations.
Where is Loki filmed?
The series opens with Loki picking up the Tesseract in the lobby of the Stark Tower. Taking advantage of the confusion, after the artifact falls at his feet, he transports himself to the middle of the Gobi Desert in Mongolia.
The Stark Tower footage from the 2018 movie Endgame, was filmed at The Proscenium is an office building at 1170 Peachtree Street in Midtown Atlanta.
The Gobi Desert scene was filmed in the studios, probably making use of the Stagecraft technology first used in The Mandalorian.
Most of the first episode, "Glorious Purpose", takes place at the headquarters of the time-keeper agency Time Variance Authority.
Suddenly, it seems that we are inside a Wes Anderson movie, with primitive digital devices and cartoons like The Jetsons, inspired by retro-futuristic technology from the 60s.
These scenes and all the studio work were filmed at Pinewood Atlanta Studios, now known as Trilith Studios in Fayetteville, GA. Key sections of the Disney+ hit series WandaVision and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier were also recorded here.

The bureaucratic environment, the propaganda and the murals on the walls also have a distinctly Soviet style.
It seems that production designer Kasra Farahani and director Kate Herron filmed this scene in the corridor of the TVA facilities with the below picture in mind, one of the few surviving photographs of the wondrous Buzludzha Monument in Bulgaria.
In Atlas of Wonders we wrote about this awesome UFO-looking memorial with mosaic-covered interior in 2013. You can check out more pictures of this amazing place in our dedicated report via the last link.

Buzludzha (pictured on the left side) was a giant circular pavilion with a capacity for thousands of people, built at the top of a remote mountain in the Bulgarian Balkans.
Opened in 1981, after the fall of the communist bloc in 1991 the complex was abandoned and almost collapsed due to the actions of illegal scrap dealers. Today, there is some hope for the red colosseum, as an international team has been restoring the structure since 2020.

The medieval church in the year 1549 in Aix-en-Provence, France, is actually the Westview Abbey in the magnificent Westview Cemetery’s mausoleum in Atlanta.
Built in 1943, the chapel of this hidden gem boasts 27 ornate stained-glass windows. It was also a featured location in Ozark, doubling as the mansion of a cartel boss in Mexico, and in the Netflix movie Reptile.

In the second episode, "The Variant", the Renaissance Faire in the year 1985 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, was filmed at the Georgia Renaissance Festival grounds in Fairburn.
This 32-acre village opens every spring and combines theatre, people in costumes, and 200 artisans offering you medieval-ish stuff.

Back in the TVA offices, the impressive interior hall of the massive library and archives was filmed at Atlanta Marriott Marquis in the city's downtown.
The statues and the infinite floors of the complex were CGI'd into the background. The canteen was also a set built in the studios.
The famous atrium of this iconic 52-story hotel in Atlanta was the Ghosted movie restaurant.

Following the Kablooie chewing gum clue and some accurate research, Loki and Mobius want to test the theory that the Variant is hiding in apocalypses.
After a cataclysm, your actions have no consequences, so a potential Nexus event doesn't trigger variance energy alerts.
The scene where the duo conducts the test in Pompeii, Italy, just before the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, was also filmed on a soundstage.
Atlanta Magazine reported that the Roxxcart superstore (a kinda futuristic version of Walmart) in 2050 in Haven Hills, Alabama, was filmed at North DeKalb Mall in Decatur. The shoot took place at the vacant Macy's store in February 2020 for five days.
There is neither a Haven Hills town in Alabama and nor a Roxxcart supermarket, at least not yet in our timeline.
What has come true in this episode - SPOILER- is Lady Loki (played by Sophia Di Martino), a female version of the Loki character.

In the third episode, Loki and Sylvie escape from the TVA using a TemPad to 2077 Lamentis-1, a moon about to crash into its planet. The first scenes of the episode were filmed on location in a rock quarry near Loganville.
Fun fact: In the comics, each agent of the TVA had the face of Marvel Comics editor Mark Gruenwald. This was an internal joke as Gruenwald's job as editor was to maintain continuity across the Marvel Universe.

Loki's Castle
And where is the cool and dark Citadel at the End of Time from the season finale, "For All Time. Always."?
Built in the studio and stored on the hard disks of the CGI company. However, if we search in the real world, the facade seems inspired by the German romantic architecture (e.g. the famous Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria).
Also, the "Techno-Gothic" style of the interior with the 'X' pattern resembling an hourglass looks like the magnificent and very original scissor arches of the Wells Cathedral transept in England.
'He Who Remains' is played by Jonathan Majors, who starred in the HBO's series Lovecraft Country and appears as Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
Rounding out the main cast are Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Ravonna Renslayer, the powerful judge of the TVA agency, and Wunmi Mosaku as a high-ranking minutemen trooper, Hunter B-15.

Season Season Locations
In the second episode, "Breaking Brad," the fictional Leopold Theater in London was filmed at the Noël Coward Theatre in the West End.
Originally opened in 1903 as the New Theatre, it was renamed in honor of the acclaimed playwright and actor Sir Noël Coward in 2006.

According to MCU, Sylvie's McDonald's in 1982 Broxton, Oklahoma, was filmed in an old Indian restaurant called Raj Villa in Hertfordshire.

Also in the same episode, there is a sequence filmed in the No. 3 Covered Slip at the Historic Dockyard Chatham.
Today transformed into a maritime museum, this naval facility was also featured in the Bridgerton series.

In the fifth episode, "Science/Fiction," Loki ends up at a jet ski store called Piranha Powersports in Cleveland, Ohio.
This scene was filmed at the Ace Cafe London, a popular hangout for rockers and bikers that opened in 1938.

The bookstore in Pasadena was filmed at West End Lane Books, a real bookstore at 277 West End Lane in London.

Intersting article.
The Berlin Wall didn't come down until 1989 and Bulgaria didn't democratically elect anyone to anything until 1991. Unfortunately, some people didn't live during the Cold War and don't know what it was like to live under the constant threat of mutual annihilation.
Unfortunately, Communism didn't "fall." It is alive and well in China and North Korea and is trying to make inroads in the West.
