Posted by

Previously known as Love in the Alps, the new Hallmark Channel romantic comedy A Winter Getaway was primarily filmed in Banff, Alberta.

The gorgeous Canadian resort town is the perfect backdrop for this love story that follows the Hallmark formula to make lovely heartfelt movies.

A Winter Getaway location

The storyline revolves around an average guy called Joe (played by Brooks Darnell) who is mistaken for a millionaire after he is gifted with a luxury skiing trip.

During this journey, Joe will meet the adorable hotel concierge Courtney (Nazneen Contractor). The chemistry between them leads to a little romance. But, will Courtney feel the same way about him when she learns the truth?

Welcome to the best guide to the filming locations of A Winter Getaway that you can find:

The sequence on a plane
According to IMDb, the jet airplane hangar where Joe and Courtney first meet was recorded at the Southport Aerospace Centre in Manitoba, located about an hour drive west from Winnipeg.

Winnipeg is becoming a filming location destination. Productions like Snowkissed and Tales from the Loop were also shot here. In addition, this is the city where Nobody was filmed.

A Winter Getaway town

Banff Lookout Hotel
The Fort Garry Hotel in Winnipeg doubles as the fictional Banff Lookout Hotel.

Located in the city center, this historic hotel offers a full-service spa, gym, indoor pool, and rooms with.... yes! bathrobes.

Joe's master suite with a mountain view is not a room but an opulent hallway of the hotel that serves as a wedding venue. You can stay in this hotel in a double room with a private bathroom for just about US$100.

A Winter Getaway Hotel
Nestled amongst the woods, the Fairmont Banff Springs hotel is one of the highlights of A Winter Getaway.

In the film, this is the Banff Springs Hotel closed for remodeling that also appears at the end of the movie.

The last scene was filmed here at the historic Cascade Ballroom, which hosted guests as Fred Astaire and Marilyn Monroe.

The resort, built in the grand Scottish-Baronial-style in 1888, was developed by the Canadian Pacific Railway to promote tourism to this remote region of the country, combining passage and luxury accommodation from Central and Eastern Canada to the Rockies and the Pacific Coast.

You can book a double room with a private bathroom in the hotel for about US$380. The on-site activities for guests include two pools, a spa, bowling, tennis, horseback riding, and golfing.

The hotel terrace scene
The scene where Courtney and Joe have lunch in a magnificent outdoor terrace after a day of skiing was also filmed at the Fairmont Banff Springs hotel.

This elegant balcony features superb views to the Bow Valley, with Mount Girouard and Mount Peechee beyond. This is a popular location to celebrate weddings, banquets, and venues with the most incredible scenery.

This is the same location where the Wilderness series hotel was filmed.

Belle la Vie
The Winnipeg Art Gallery doubles as the Banff Mountain Gallery.

The exterior facade building in Chicago of Courtney's company, Belle la Vie, is the Grain Exchange Building at 167 Lombard Ave, also in Winnipeg.

The cast in the curling rink
The curling rink scene was filmed at the Granite Curling Club in Winnipeg, an institution devoted to promoting this peculiar sport since 1880.

 A Winter Getaway Restaurant
In the next scene, the couple rides the Banff Gondola lift until the awesome award-winning Sky Bistro panoramic restaurant, located at the top of Sulphur Mountain at 7,510-feet (2289 meters).

This high-end cuisine venue summit station serves a delicious selection of regionally-sourced local Canadian ingredients.

The Grizzly Paw Brewery
The beer-tasting bar was filmed at The Grizzly Paw Brewery and Tasting Room in Canmore (Alberta).

But, what is the food they eat at the brewery with the root beer drink? Someone leaved us a message saying that it was a dish called Brisket Poutine.

The cast of the movie is completed by Erik Athavale as Gabe, the hotel butler, Jacob Blair as Joe's friend Alan, Daina Leitold as Dana, Stephanie Sy as Julie, Megan Serena Trainer as Alan's wife, and Ryan Northcott as the Brewery Owner.
