Star Trek Picard Filming Locations Guide: The Chateau Picard Location

Posted by

Now back for season two, Star Trek: Picard was filmed in several locations across California.

The highly anticipated series brings back Sir Patrick Stewart returning to his iconic role of Jean-Luc Picard, for the first time 18 years after the events pictured in the 2002 film Star Trek: Nemesis.

Star Trek Picard Filming Locations

Stewart played this role for seven seasons on Star Trek: The Next Generation. The CBS and Amazon show, set at the end of the 24th century, was renewed for a 10-episode second season before premiering the first one.

The story follows Picard as a retired Starfleet admiral, living in his peaceful vineyard, Chateau Picard. One day, a mysterious young woman named Dahj (Isa Briones) from Greater Boston shows up asking for help, as she has assassins from the Romulan Star Empire after her.

We won't abandon this post lost in the hyper-webspace - we'll be updating and improving this report with new details about the season 2 filming locations.

The real Chateau Picard Vineyards location

Chateau Picard Vineyards
Château Picard is the estate where the Picard family produces red wine, located in La Barre (sometimes written Labarrère).

Jean-Luc Picard was born and raised in this village situated in the french region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté.

The magnificent Sunstone Vineyards and Winery, located in the charming Santa Ynez Valley (just 35-minutes north of Santa Barbara), doubles as the Picard family's vineyard.

Star Trek Picard Winery
The 8,500 square foot villa at Sunstone, built in 1999, contains architectural remains incorporated into the house of buildings in towns and humble villages in various regions of France.

According to Sunstone Winery, 'Forty-five 40,000-pound containers arrived on the Santa Ynez hilltop from 2001-2003'.

The collected artifacts include a prison cell door from Normandy constructed during Napoleon’s reign and a thousand-year-old limestone kitchen sink.

Where is Star Trek: Picard filmed?

Romulan city location
The Daystrom Institute in Okinawa city was composited into the background of the Golden Cove semicircular beach in Rancho Palos Verdes.

If you'd like to visit the area, there is a trail to the rocky beach, steep and exposed in places. From the cliff, you can look down and see the awesome tide pools below.

Star Trek Picard Starfleet Archives
The flying-saucer of the Anaheim Convention Center Arena is the Starfleet Archives building from the first episode called 'Remembrance'.

The overall design reminds the City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia (Spain), a new Season 3 Westworld filming location.

Jean-Luc leaves his family home at Chateau Picard to join, once more, the United Federation of Planets organization. In this futuristic San Francisco, the Golden Gate Bridge seems to have been converted into a sort of solar power station.

Starfleet Academy Headquarters
Anaheim Convention Center in California is the filming location of the new Starfleet Headquarters and Academy.

Located in real life across from the Disneyland Resort, this large complex hosted some major events like the VidCon, BlizzCon, Anime Expo, D23 Expo, WonderCon, and the NAMM Show.

The center has been updated and expanded seven times. The most spectacular extension was completed in 2013 with the construction of the 100,000 square feet Grand Plaza where Star Trek: Picard was filmed.

Raffi Musiker (played by Michelle Hurd who starred in Law and Order: Special Victims Unit), is a former Starfleet intelligence officer.

She has her futurist mobile home set near the picturesque landscape of the Vasquez Rocks, located in the Sierra Pelona Mountains (northern Los Angeles County).

This natural area park is a popular Trekkie landmark. It was nicknamed Kirk's Rock because it was featured in several Star Trek original series episodes, each time representing a different planet.

Season 2 was shot all over LA too! Downtown LA, MacArthur Park, can't wait to see all the landmarks!

What is the location/building that is used as the police station in Star Trek Picard, 2nd season, 4th episode? It also stood in as 1960s LAX in the movie I Am Woman.

The interesting thing is, from early in Picard Season 2. As Rios' ship is crashing on Earth, and Picard is setting landing coordinates, you can clearly see the lat/long he's entering as 34.51323, -118.106233. This, in the story, is Chateau Picard, in France. In fact, those coordinates are smack in the center of a small vineyard, South of Palmdale, CA.

The house there is not palatial, but an interesting, small geodesic dome house. I'm wondering if this might be another filming location, as it would have been convenient to Hollywood for shooting scenes around grapevines.

The coordinates listed by Anonymous 3 were used as Chateau Picard in the TNG episode, "Family".
