Where was Carnival Row filmed? Guide to ALL the Filming Locations

Posted by

Now back for the second season, Carnival Row was primarily filmed in the Czech Republic and Croatia, with studio work taking place at the Barrandov Studios in Prague.

The dark fantasy world of the series is an original story about the Fae, the mythical creatures who have fled their homeland, invaded by the human empire of The Pact.

Where was Carnival Row filmed

Carnival Row is actually the name of a neighborhood and a sort of ghetto in The Burgue (rivals of The Pact), where many Fae (all the non-human folks) have found refuge.

The series co-stars Orlando Bloom as inspector Rycroft Philostrate and Cara Delevingne as fae Vignette Stonemoss. The main cast is completed by Tamzin Merchant playing Imogen Spurnrose and David Gyasi performing the wealthy faun Agreus Astrayon.

Welcome to the best guide to all the filming locations of Carnival Row, in order of appearance. You’ll find the new season two updates below in the report.

Carnival Row filming locations

Carnival Row City
The Burgue is a steampunk neo-Victorian metropolis, located in the north of the Mesogeo continent.

Prague is the obvious inspiration for the capital city of the Republic.

These images are taken from the top of the old town tower, with the world-famous Charles Bridge and the castle of Prague skyline.

Carnival Row Prague
Obviously, there's a lot of CGI in the series, but this expensive production also built streets and many interiors (including the Tetterby hotel and the Constabulary) in large and detailed sets at the Barrandov Studios backlot.

Prague Palace scene
Some scenes from the second episode, "Aisling", were filmed on location at the gardens of Queen Anne's Summer Palace (Letohrádek královny Anny), in the Royal Castle of Prague.

Tirnanoc
The Carnival Row's world is divided into two hemispheres, one of the human and one of all the other creatures, where the Kingdom of Anoun is located.

In the third episode, the Prachov Rocks doubled as the Tirnanese Highlands.

This stunning landscape is also one of the awesome locations where The Wheel of Time series was filmed.

In the fourth episode, Vignette meets Dahlia's Black Ravens inside the abandoned church of All Saints (Kostel Všech svatých), in the small town of Stvolínky.

The New Second Season Locations

The execution scene in the first episode, "Fight or Flight", was filmed at the Nelahozeves Castle courtyard.

This 16th century palace is located in the village of the same name, about 15 miles (25 km) north of Prague.

Carnival Row Ragusa
Some scenes in the second season set in Ragusa were filmed in Dubrovnik, Croatia.

Burgue palace
The Burgue palace is a CGI creation with some elements recalling the Berlin Palace (Berlin's coat of arms has three stripes of red-white-red with a bear).

The interior scenes (pictured below) were filmed at the Palác Živnostenské Banky, a gorgeous Neo-Renaissance palace located at Na Příkopě 858 in Prague.

Embassy of The Pact
The embassy of The Pact in the third episode, "The Martyr's Hand", is the Renaissance-style Schwarzenberský Palace in Prague, located in front of the Prague Castle gate.

  9. There was an episode filmed in Liberec in the winter of 2019 at the Radnice on Dr. Eduard Beneše náměstí. The place was closed down and surrounded by film crew. My girlfriend had us waiting outside in hopes to catch a glimpse of Orlando Bloom.
