The Menu Island & all the Filming Locations: Where was The Menu filmed?

Posted by

Ready for the dinner of your life? Directed by Succession series executive producer Mark Mylod, this thriller takes you to an extreme and exclusive restaurant managed by a pretentious chef played by Ralph Fiennes.

Set on a mysterious small island, The Menu was entirely filmed in and around Savannah in Georgia.

Ralph Fiennes and Anya Taylor-Joy

Screenwriter Will Tracy came up with the idea for the movie during his honeymoon in Norway, where he went to a posh restaurant on a private island, only accessible by boat. At some point, he realized that they were stuck on the island until the meal was over.

The main cast is completed by The Queen's Gambit star Anya Taylor-Joy as Margot and Nicholas Hoult (The Great, The Favourite) as food enthusiast Tyler.

Welcome to Hawthorne Island and our spoiler-free guide to all the filming locations of The Menu.

The Menu location
The spot where the twelve privileged guests of the Hawthorne restaurant embark on their culinary destination was filmed at the dock near the Savannah Convention Center on Hutchinson Island.

In some shots, we can see the Factors Walk building across the Savannah River at the Historic District riverfront in the background.

The Menu Hawthorne Island

Hawthorne Island
In the movie, the tiny Hawthorne Island where the restaurant is located comprises 12 acres of forest and pasture.

This fictional island is actually an amalgam of several locations.

The Menu island
The scene on the beach was filmed at the beautiful Driftwood Beach located at the north end of Jekyll Island.

The scenic landscape of this beach with numerous logs brought in by the tide has transformed this place into a romantic wedding venue.

You can get married here on the beach, but beware of high tide, during which much of the sand is underwater.

The Menu movie house
Some exterior scenes were filmed, or are inspired by, a property called Hampton Island, situated off the coast of Georgia between Savannah and Sea Island.

Chef Slowik's house is like the old barn on a farm located on this island.

Hampton Island
Hampton Island is reached by a wooden bridge, which seems the same as the scene where one of the guests tries to escape from the restaurant.

In the summer of 2022, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck celebrated their wedding in "The Big House", a large, elegant plantation mansion also located in the Hampton Island Preserve.

However, production designer Ethan Tobman confirmed in an interview for Condé Nast Traveler that most of the outdoor shots were filmed on Tybee Island near Savannah.

The film crew built the facade of the restaurant. The local press reported that the shoot took place in a private residence on Horsepen Point Drive, and at the beach seaward in the south of the island at Chatham Avenue and 19th Street.

The Menu 2021 movie cast
The Nordic Brutalist-style interior of the Hawthorne restaurant was filmed on a soundstage at the studios.
