The Netflix thriller Lou, taking place in 1986, tells the story of two women who follow the trail of a kidnapper across a remote island to rescue one of the women’s daughters.

The film is set on Orcas Island in Washington State, but Lou was entirely filmed in British Columbia.

Where was Lou filmed

The main cast is headed by Allison Janney (I, Tonya, Juno) as the mysterious woman, Lou Adell, Jurnee Smollett (True Blood, Lovecraft Country) as the young girl's mother, Hannah Dawson, and Logan Marshall-Green (Spider-Man: Homecoming, Prometheus) as the former green beret with an obscure past, Philip.

The Lou island location

Lou island
The local press reported that the movie was filmed in Ucluelet, a small and beautiful town located on the West Coast of Vancouver Island in British Columbia.

This establishing shot at the beginning of the movie, with Lou Adell driving her pick-up truck, was recorded on the other side of the Ucluelet Peninsula, in Ittatsoo.

Pioneer BoatWorks
The hardware store was filmed at the Pioneer BoatWorks fishing store at 166 Fraser Lane in Ucluelet.

Situated on the edge of the wild Pacific Ocean, the isolated area surrounding Ucluelet is considered to be one of the world's most pristine coastlines.

The Crow’s Nest
Built in 1908, the historic store The Crow’s Nest, served as the bank where Lou withdraws a lot of cash.

Lou location
According to YVRShoots, the production filmed scenes at Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve, a magnificent hiking trail area with alpine meadows, forested slopes, and pristine waters in North Vancouver.

The beach lighthouse
Atlas of Wonders has tracked down the location of the fictional Eagle Point beach where many key scenes of the movie were filmed.

The lighthouse doesn't exist as it was created using CGI. The beach is situated a bit south of Wya Point, on the outskirts of Ucluelet.

Lou beach
The spectacular rugged coast between Tofino and Ucluelet was also featured in the 2020 movie featuring Elijah Wood, Come to Daddy.


Lou drehorte
The Artemis ferry at the end of the movie is the MV Quinitsa automobile ferry service operated by BC Ferries between Crofton and Vesuvius Bay on Salt Spring Island.

The ferry filmed at the end is BC Ferries " Quinitsa".

As Hannah and her daughter, Vee, look on from the Artemis ferry's bow. In the distance, a salute to the Bigg's family of Killer Whales T065A - "Artemis", mother, the eldest daughter of Whidbey II, born in 1986, named after the Roman goddess of the Hunt.
