Where is After Life filmed? Tambury Filming Location of Ricky Gervais Netflix series

The After Life Netflix hit series starring actor and comedian Ricky Gervais is back for the second season. The creator of the popular British sitcom The Office plays Tony Johnson. Tony is a journalist working in a local newspaper called Tambury Gazette. He's struggling to cope with the death of his wife, Lisa. To take revenge on the universe for ruining his previous happy life, Tony decides from now on to say and do whatever he wants.
Also joining the cast are David Bradley (Walder Frey from Game Of Thrones), Penelope Wilton (Downton Abbey, Doctor Who), Ashley Jensen (Extras), Tom Basden (Plebs, Quacks), Tony Way (Edge of Tomorrow) and Diane Morgan (Mock the Week).
After Life was filmed in Hemel Hempstead, appearing in the show like a surprisingly sunny city in England. This historic town in Hertfordshire, near Luton, is part of the Greater London metropolitan area. Here is our (almost) complete filming locations guide of the series - you'll find the season 2 updates below in the report:

The charming street where Tony lives is located in Vale of Health, a tiny hamlet with a pond in Hampstead (London), that has survived development pressures over time. Image courtesy of Netflix and Google Maps

The Coffee Cup place from the second episode of the first season is located at 17 High St. The Tea Tree tea room featured in series two is very close at 23 also on High Street. Hemel Hempstead is located only 24 miles northwest of central London, but pretty far from any beach. Image courtesy of Netflix - Map

In the third episode, Tony goes to walk the dog. After a short path they travel many miles away, turning up in the wonderful Camber Sands beach in East Sussex. Image courtesy of Diamond Geezer - Map

The scene pictured above from the 4th episode was filmed in The Hill Garden and Pergola (west of Vale of Health). This magnificent Georgian park was also featured in the first episode. Tony’s date takes place in the Villa Bianca Italian restaurant in Hampstead. The garage where Julian sleeps is located at 60 Flask Walk, also in Hampstead. Also many scenes were filmed in Beaconsfield (Buckinghamshire). The Autumnal Leaves Care Home is the Old Town Registration Office, and the graveyard's bench is almost across the street, in the grounds of St Mary & All Saints church (that it's the temple featured in the season two finale). The crematorium from the last episode of the first season is located behind the church. Image courtesy of Netflix - Map

I love British humor and R.Gervais has surely outdone himself in the heartwarming, outrageous comedic masterpiece. His quirks, slurs, and outlandish rudeness makes this so poignant as a man deals with loss of a loved one. I can relate, as I suddenly lost my husband of 48yrs & the accurate struggles he displays are funny, depressing in truth, and he crosses the fork in the road to heal with the help of his friends and loved ones. 5 Stars and will watch it again & again just to witness his sharpness in retorts with a sincerity of character that is genuine & inspiring.
DeleteCould easily have watched it all in one night — it’s so good — but I stretched it over three nights because I knew from the middle of the first episode that I’d be sad when it was over. Can’t wait until Gervais make another series (season in Canada, US).
