Filming Locations Guide: Where was Paddleton filmed?

Posted by

Paddleton is a Netflix dramedy that premiered in 2019 in the prestigious Sundance Film Festival.

The story revolves around Andy and Michael, two friends and neighbors who go on a road trip after one of them is diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Paddleton Location

This small production, directed by Alex Lehmann, is starring Mark Duplass (Pete from the television series The League) and Ray Romano (known from the sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond or for playing the voice of Manny in the Ice Age movies).

Paddleton was filmed in several locations in Santa Barbara County, California, including a cute Danish-style town. Here are the most relevant filming locations of the movie:

Paddleton town
The huge wall where the duo plays paddleton, the old Valley Drive-In Theatre, is located at 2126 North H Street in Lompoc.

Birds ranch farmhouse
You can also visit the ostrich farm from the film. Ostrichland is located on the outskirts of Buellton.

The real Paddleton town location
The tourist town with windmills, built in traditional Danish style, is Solvang in Santa Ynez Valley.

According to Wikipedia, the town was founded in 1911 by a group of immigrants from the Scandinavian country.

They established a community that has become a little Denmark: you'll find a statue of the world-famous Little Mermaid, a replica of Copenhagen's round tower Rundetårn, a bust of Hans Christian Andersen... however, there's nothing made out of Lego.

The motel scene
The hotel with the swimming pool is the Svendsgaard's Danish Lodge at 1711 Mission Drive.

Paddleton drehort
There is also a short scene with Andy filmed in a neighborhood of Solvang in Viborg Road, so maybe the house of the two protagonists is nearby.

  1. Great movie! I wasn't a Ray Romano fan before,Duplass was the reason I watched it. It was a funny and heart wrenching movie. I'm from the area it was filmed, so that made it fun too. Even though, as a tourist trap we avoid Solvang like the plague it's fun to see familiar locations.

  2. Great movie, I wasn't a fan of Mark Duplass. Ray Romano (Zak Yankovich, Vinyl) and his acting chops brought me to it. Very good movie well done, maybe a little boring and slow movie but that is a Duplass' signature and should be expected.

  3. Movie aficionado here. I’m getting so good at recognizing where are movies are filmed all the way from Georgia to California and I recognize this immediately as Solvang, danish town. So if that’s where they went to purchase the medication that would put them driving six hours from somewhere around L.A. although film puts them Living in area of drive-in in Lompoc.
