Where was It filmed? Stephen King’s It Chapter 1 & 2 Filming Locations

The It movie is an adaptation of one of Stephen King’s most popular and bestselling novels, the classic horror book first published in 1986. It follows the story of a group of children, The Losers Club, terrorized by a demonic entity that appears in the form of an evil clown, Pennywise.
It: Chapter One and It: Chapter Two are set in the fictional town of Derry (Maine). The producers had already planned to make a sequel of the movie when filming the first one, set in 1989. The second part, that premiered in September 2019, reviews the events of the film released in 2017, from the point of view of the kids as adults, 27 years later.
It was filmed in the town of Port Hope and around Toronto in Canada. Please scroll down to find the specific filming locations of Chapter Two. We've tried to keep the spoilers at bay:

A key location of It is the eerie haunted house at 29 Neibolt Street. The facade of the old mansion was built in a corner of James Street and Eulalie Avenue in central Oshawa. Exterior shots were filmed here during three full days, although the final result on the screen involves lots of CGI.

Interior scenes were shot in a mansion from 1902 called Cranfield House, located at 450 Pape Avenue in Riverdale (Toronto). Port Hope was transformed into Derry for filming. The town, famous for it's well-preserved period architecture, is the portrayal of Bangor, a city in Maine where Stephen King has a house. Derry could be twinned with the fictional village of Elden, France. Image by courtesy of Warner Bros Pictures and Google Maps

Several scenes downtown for both chapters take place in Memorial Park. Here is where a statue of Paul Bunyan was erected just for the film. Image by courtesy of Warner Bros Pictures and Google Maps

The Municipal hall doubled as the Derry Public Library. The interior scenes were filmed at Wycliffe College in the University of Toronto. Image by courtesy of Warner Bros Pictures and Google Maps

The shops and business in Walton and Queen streets changed their signs and decoration to look like 1980s stores for Chapter One. The infamous alley is across the street from Capitol Theatre. The local Keene's pharmacy is the former Watson's Guardian Drugs at Walton & Ontario St. The second hand shop Rose from Chapter 2, featuring a cameo from IT author Stephen King himself, is the Joie de Vivre store at 45 Walton St.

It was also filmed on Steeles Ave. just past whittamores
ReplyDeleteWhat Scene was filmed there?
DeleteElora Quarry is not a lake... it's just the Elora Quarry (when it was being mined they hit a natural spring). It backs onto the Grand River, but there's no lake.
ReplyDeleteWho said anything about it being a lake??
DeleteDude you realize that articles undergo edits, right? It probably said lake before this dude corrected them almost three years ago.
DeleteI heard there was some stuff filmed in Enniskillen Ontario as well... ?
ReplyDeleteI take it that Henry and the scenes at his house were filmed along there? I managed to find one possible location but it doesn't quite match up with the movie and trailer.
ReplyDelete1585 Whitevale road, pickering search this in google map. it's that house
DeleteWhat about the water tower, was that Bangor's old water tower?
ReplyDeleteThe Thomas Hill Standpipe scene was shot on location just a few blocks from S.King's house in Bangor. https://www.google.com/maps/@44.8072222,-68.7827778,3a,75y,90t/data=!3m8!1e2!3m6!1sAF1QipOGXb11Jlw9AMzlMbmJTEWSir9LQbNvibObKK5d!2e10!3e12!6shttps:%2F%2Flh5.googleusercontent.com%2Fp%2FAF1QipOGXb11Jlw9AMzlMbmJTEWSir9LQbNvibObKK5d%3Dw152-h86-k-no!7i3264!8i1836
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot, uptated!
DeleteThe Chinese food restaurant scene in It 2 was actually shot at the Oriental Jade restaurant in Bangor Maine. Also the reason for the name "jade of the orient" in the movie.
DeleteThat's the inspiration, for Jade of the Orient, not the actual filming location. The filming location is at the Mandarin Restaurant in Mississauga.
DeleteThe Thomas Hill Standpipe is located just a few blocks away from Stephen King's house in Bangor (Maine). However, the water tower that appears in the movie was reproduced using CGI.
DeleteThe scenes at the end on the banks are they the grand river? I thought maybe some scenes shot in Paris ontario?
ReplyDeleteI read that there was a scene filmed in Pickering, Ontario. Does anyone know anything about that?
ReplyDeleteThe real location of Henry's house is a farmhouse in the hamlet of Whitevale in Pickering, Ontario. The same house was also used as the location of Will Graham's house in NBC's Hannibal.
DeleteAwesome, thanks a lot for your help finding this one. Updated!
Delete1585 Whitevale road, pickering
DeleteDoes anyone know where the sewer entrance is or the rock fight?
ReplyDeleteCan anybody tell where the farm of Mike Hanlon´s grandfather is located? Where he had to kill a sheep.
ReplyDeleteAlso looking for the place where the stone fight took place.
Mike's grandfather's farm is an actual sheep farm just outside of Rockwood, Ontario. The driveway where he rides his bike down is the driveway of the same farm. This is my parent's farm! My brother is the sheep handler in the blue overalls at the start of the scene.

DeleteWhere is this farm exactly located?
DeleteI know no one cares but Port Hope is actually a small town/municipality
ReplyDeleteOk we care, corrected :)
DeleteI cared enough to search it up. Your town is BEAUTIFUL!
DeleteAlso that Main Street in Port Hope is called Walton St
ReplyDeleteThe scene where the 4 boys ride there bike down a hill towards the Derry Library. That is the corner of Augusta St and Pine St in Port Hope, Ontario. https://www.google.ca/maps/@43.9495659,-78.2962033,3a,75y,282.7h,89.96t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s8TYFGKdsL45iLsmynhLsEg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656
ReplyDeleteThe river flowing through Port Hope is called the Ganaraska River and empties into Lake Ontario.
ReplyDeleteImmediately after the rock fight, the group is walking in some tall grass. There is a train going by. That scene is done in Port Hope, between the two train tracks, close to John St, but east of it and west of the Ganaraska River. There is a storage place there now, but when my dad owned that property it was known as the Port Hope Car Wash and Ice Vending. https://www.google.ca/maps/@43.9460093,-78.2945406,3a,60y,3.7h,90t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sbVr98coXAYPWT-oijTB17A!2e0!7i13312!8i6656 You can see the clock in the background, but you can tell by the angle, the group would have been much closer to John street.
ReplyDeleteWow, thanks a lot for your contribution, Gordon!

DeleteDoes anyone know where the school is?
ReplyDeleteThey are filming for the It sequel, today and tomorrow in Port Hope
DeleteMount Mary Retreat Center
DeleteIm sure that the standpipe is not the one from Bangor. The windows aren’t the same. I’ve been there and the park benches are way older too. Anyone knows where it is?
ReplyDeleteThe water tower that appears in the movie was reproduced using CGI. It is based on the one in Stephen King's hometown of Bangor, Maine.
DeleteDoes anyone know the filming schedule for Pennywise? Last I saw him was on September 19th with Bill Hader. Anyone know the deets?
ReplyDelete"The Jade of the Orient" was the Mandarin at Hurontario & Matheson in Mississauga. My husband and I remember when the sign was changed. In one shot, you can see Master Mechanic in the background.
ReplyDeleteIn Chapter Two early on in the movie, there is a t-bone car accident between a black SUV and car. That took place at the corner of Bay & Adelaide in downtown Toronto. I worked at the building on the NW corner for 12 years and recognized it immediately. The side of the building on the SW corner shown in the movie is the Bank of Montreal tower. The side of the building on the NW corner shown in the movie, you can see just the edge of the Rogers store sign at street level.
