Where was It filmed? Stephen King’s It Chapter 1 & 2 Filming Locations

Pennywise red balloon in Abandoned house It
Posted by Ra Moon
The It movie is an adaptation of one of Stephen King’s most popular and bestselling novels, the classic horror book first published in 1986. It follows the story of a group of children, The Losers Club, terrorized by a demonic entity that appears in the form of an evil clown, Pennywise.

It: Chapter One and It: Chapter Two are set in the fictional town of Derry (Maine). The producers had already planned to make a sequel of the movie when filming the first one, set in 1989. The second part, that premiered in September 2019, reviews the events of the film released in 2017, from the point of view of the kids as adults, 27 years later.

It was filmed in the town of Port Hope and around Toronto in Canada. Please scroll down to find the specific filming locations of Chapter Two. We've tried to keep the spoilers at bay:

The Abandoned house It movie
A key location of It is the eerie haunted house at 29 Neibolt Street. The facade of the old mansion was built in a corner of James Street and Eulalie Avenue in central Oshawa. Exterior shots were filmed here during three full days, although the final result on the screen involves lots of CGI.

  1. It was also filmed on Steeles Ave. just past whittamores

  2. Elora Quarry is not a lake... it's just the Elora Quarry (when it was being mined they hit a natural spring). It backs onto the Grand River, but there's no lake.

  4. I take it that Henry and the scenes at his house were filmed along there? I managed to find one possible location but it doesn't quite match up with the movie and trailer.

    1. The Chinese food restaurant scene in It 2 was actually shot at the Oriental Jade restaurant in Bangor Maine. Also the reason for the name "jade of the orient" in the movie.

    2. That's the inspiration, for Jade of the Orient, not the actual filming location. The filming location is at the Mandarin Restaurant in Mississauga.

  10. Can anybody tell where the farm of Mike Hanlon´s grandfather is located? Where he had to kill a sheep.
Also looking for the place where the stone fight took place.

    1. Mike's grandfather's farm is an actual sheep farm just outside of Rockwood, Ontario. The driveway where he rides his bike down is the driveway of the same farm. This is my parent's farm! My brother is the sheep handler in the blue overalls at the start of the scene.

  13. The scene where the 4 boys ride there bike down a hill towards the Derry Library. That is the corner of Augusta St and Pine St in Port Hope, Ontario. https://www.google.ca/maps/@43.9495659,-78.2962033,3a,75y,282.7h,89.96t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s8TYFGKdsL45iLsmynhLsEg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

  14. The river flowing through Port Hope is called the Ganaraska River and empties into Lake Ontario.

  15. Immediately after the rock fight, the group is walking in some tall grass. There is a train going by. That scene is done in Port Hope, between the two train tracks, close to John St, but east of it and west of the Ganaraska River. There is a storage place there now, but when my dad owned that property it was known as the Port Hope Car Wash and Ice Vending. https://www.google.ca/maps/@43.9460093,-78.2945406,3a,60y,3.7h,90t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sbVr98coXAYPWT-oijTB17A!2e0!7i13312!8i6656 You can see the clock in the background, but you can tell by the angle, the group would have been much closer to John street.

  19. "The Jade of the Orient" was the Mandarin at Hurontario & Matheson in Mississauga. My husband and I remember when the sign was changed. In one shot, you can see Master Mechanic in the background.

  20. In Chapter Two early on in the movie, there is a t-bone car accident between a black SUV and car. That took place at the corner of Bay & Adelaide in downtown Toronto. I worked at the building on the NW corner for 12 years and recognized it immediately. The side of the building on the SW corner shown in the movie is the Bank of Montreal tower. The side of the building on the NW corner shown in the movie, you can see just the edge of the Rogers store sign at street level.
