Filming Locations: Where was Strike filmed?

The Strike series (also known as C.B. Strike), is the TV adaptation of J.K. Rowling's crime novels
, written under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith. It tells the story of Cormoran Strike, an old-school private eye and a veteran of the Iraq war.
The four books of the series The Cuckoo’s Calling, The Silkworm, Career of Evil, and Lethal White, have been filmed as separate dramas. The seven-episode production stars The Musketeers and War And Peace actor Tom Burke. Holliday Grainger (The Borgias, Jane Eyre) plays Robin, Strike's assistant, and secretary.
The locations mentioned in the book are often real and very well detailed. Strike was filmed primarily in London. Here is our report including the most relevant filming locations of the series:

The Tottenham Pub that inspired the book is at 6 Oxford Street (London), although now is called The Flying Horse. For the series, the exteriors were filmed in the Duke Of York pub (47 Rathbone St), near the BT Tower in Fitzrovia. Image courtesy of Google Maps

Strike lives in his office at 6th Denmark Street. The film crew managed to get the permits to film on this busy street, but the interior was built in a sound stage in West London. Image courtesy of BBC Google Maps

Producer Jackie Larkin comments in an interview how hard it was to shoot Lula Landry’s apartment, as it was impossible to find all the elements required for this location. In the end they used five different places to film the building (the loft, the interiors, the staircase, and the pool). The exterior was shot in Rutland Gate in Kensington (pictured). The block of flats at the end of the first episode is in Hackney, near Ravenscroft St.

Segments of the Career of Evil were filmed at The Crow’s Nest pub in Barrow-in-Furness (Cumbria). The fictional café in The A Word series, The Fellside, is located not far from here. The crew was also shooting at some more streets around the pub in Barrow. Also, exterior scenes were filmed at Leyburn Filling Station (North Yorkshire).

I would like to know where the last place is with the beautiful windows.
ReplyDeleteThey were on a property show recently, Grand Designs I think. They were built for artists, with accommodation on the ground flour and studios on the first, hence the big windows.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I found this webpage about their history. http://www.house-historian.co.uk/london/artists-studios-of-talgarth-road/
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot, interesting story!
DeleteIn the Silkworm what was the location for the scenes of the night time rooftop reception with views over the Thames (the last pic on your article). I suspect it was BAT's HQ Globe House at Temple Place WC2. Am I right?
ReplyDeleteDavid.
Hi David, I would say that this is the rooftop of the building of some editorial houses (The Orion Publishing Group, Hachette UK) at 50 Victoria Embankment.
DeleteLots of tropical plants in all of the episodes. How is it they survive?
ReplyDeleteCareer or Evil episode 1 - 44mins in they stay in a hotel. I recognised the bell on the counter. The reception desk is slightly different, but the outside shot I'm convinced is the Allerton Court Hotel, Darlington Road, Northallerton, DL6 2X. I might be wrong though
