Guy Ritchie's new take on the famous Victorian-era detective, Young Sherlock, was filmed in the United Kingdom, with additional scenes set in Paris and Constantinople shot in Andalusia, Spain.

Young Sherlock Candlin College

The series reimagines the legendary rivalry, following a rebellious teen Sherlock Holmes (Hero Fiennes Tiffin) at Oxford, teaming up with Moriarty (Dónal Finn) to crack a series of murders tied to a global conspiracy.

Young Sherlock locations

Newgate Prison in London
The Newgate Prison in London in the first episode, "The Case of the Missing Scrolls", was filmed at HM Prison Shepton Mallet in Somerset.

Considered England's oldest prison, it was operational from 1625 until its closure in 2013. Today, the site operates as a tourist attraction.

Shire Hall Monmouth
The court was filmed at Shire Hall in Monmouth, South Wales, constructed in 1724 as the county's assize courts and quarter sessions venue.

This Grade I listed Baroque building operates as a wedding and event venue and will open as a new local museum by 2027.

Young Sherlock location
The theft scene was filmed outside the Glamorgan Building in Cardiff's Cathays Park civic centre.

Completed in 1912 as the headquarters for Glamorgan County Council, it now houses the School of Social Sciences and the School of Geography and Planning.

This location appears again in the third episode as the Foreign Office in London.

Georgian House Museum Bristol
Sherlock's older brother, Mycroft (played by Max Irons), lives in a house on Baker Street.

The interior was filmed at the Georgian House Museum in Bristol, a preserved 18th-century townhouse built around 1790, offering a glimpse into Georgian-era life.

Beechworth Sanatorium
The Beechworth Sanatorium is the Rolls of Monmouth Golf Club, a championship parkland course in Monmouthshire, Wales.

The club opened in 1982 on the historic Rolls of Monmouth Estate, also known as The Hendre, the estate's Victorian Gothic mansion dating from 1767.

Young Sherlock's Candlin College in Oxford

Candlin College
The fictional Candlin College in Oxford was filmed at Magdalen College, one of the city's most prestigious colleges, renowned for its academic excellence, historic beauty and wealth.

Founded in 1458, the college features stunning late medieval architecture on the River Cherwell.

The Formal Hall dinner scene, where Sir Bucephalus Hodge (Colin Firth) appears for the first time, was filmed in the Magdalen College Dining Hall, part of the original 15th-century Cloister Quadrangle.

Divinity School at Oxford University
The Divinity School at Oxford University, pictured, is a Gothic gem ranking among Oxford University's oldest surviving buildings.

This landmark gained cinematic fame as the Hogwarts Infirmary in several Harry Potter films.

Convocation House at Bodleian Library
The classroom scene was filmed at the Convocation House at the Bodleian Library.

Originally the meeting place for the university's Convocation (the parliament of masters and doctors) in the 17th century, the building features a striking fan-vaulted stone ceiling.

Duke Humfrey's Library
After the party scene, filmed at St Swithun's Quad, a Victorian Gothic area at Magdalen College, Sherlock and Moriarty end up at the Duke Humfrey's Library.

This is the oldest reading room in the Bodleian Library, boasting oak beams, 17th-century bookcases, intricate fan vaulting and stained-glass windows—evoking Hogwarts' library in the Harry Potter films.

Hare and Hounds pub
After the scene at the Hare and Hounds pub, the spot where they take the penny-farthing bikes was filmed at the Church of St Teilo in Merthyr Mawr, near Bridgend in Wales.

The pub was probably filmed somewhere nearby in the area.

Hodge Science Hall
The Hodge Science Hall exterior is the New Building at Magdalen College, a Palladian-style range constructed in the 18th century.

The building houses undergraduate and fellow accommodation, as well as the wine cellar.

Collins and Sons tobacconist
The scene where Moriarty is walking in the rain in the second episode, "The Case of the Burnt Photograph", was filmed on Small Street in Bristol.

Located near the Guildhall, the Small Street Espresso frontage was dressed as the Collins and Sons tobacconist's.

Magdalen College Chapel
Princess Gulun Shou'an (Zine Tseng) is at Magdalen College Chapel, one of the oldest medieval structures of the college, though it was remodelled during the 18th and 19th centuries.

Shou'an says that the 26 characters of the Hebrew Bible are upon the wall. The reredos actually contains thirteen niches with figures, a sculptural ensemble completed in 1865.

Merthyr Mawr cottage
Professor Ambrose Roberts's cottage is in Merthyr Mawr, a picturesque estate village in South Wales (the same as the church scene).

The village is often called "Wales's own Cotswold village" for its honey-coloured stone cottages and thatched roofs.

Professor Enright's house in the third episode, "The Case of the Unarmed Man", is the Sailors Refuge, a historic building situated in Queen Square, Bristol.

Later in the same episode, Shou'an meets Esad in the same square.

The Young Sherlock house

Young Sherlock house
Llanvihangel Court near Llanvihangel Crucorney in Monmouthshire, Wales, served as Appleton Manor, the ancestral Holmes house.

Now a private home open for summer tours and events, this Tudor manor house has medieval origins dating to at least 1471.

Oakdale Workmen's Institute
Also in the fourth episode, "The Case of the Missing Button", the police station building was filmed at the Oakdale Workmen's Institute.

This community hub in Oakdale, Monmouthshire, was a model mining village built in the early 20th century by the Tredegar Iron and Coal Company.

Dismantled brick by brick in 1989, the building was rebuilt at St Fagans National Museum of History in Cardiff and reopened in 1995 to preserve Wales' mining heritage.

Abdon Abbey

Abdon Abbey
Abdon Abbey (behind the locks) was filmed at Margam Abbey, a Cistercian monastery with extensive chapter house ruins located in Margam Country Park in Port Talbot, South Wales.

Founded in the 12th century and dissolved in 1536, the nave survives as St Mary's parish church, with 19th-century restorations.

Appleton Manor

Shelbourne Hotel Bayswater London
In the sixth episode, "The Case of the Killing Jar", The Coal Exchange Hotel in Cardiff Bay doubles as the Shelbourne Hotel in Bayswater, London.

Originally built as the Coal and Shipping Exchange between 1884 and 1886 and now transformed into a boutique hotel, this Victorian landmark features a grand trading hall and an ornate façade.

Young Sherlock Paris
All the scenes in Paris and Constantinople, Turkey, were filmed in Andalusia, Spain.

The Hotel Thérèse is the Recreo de las Cadenas, later known as the Abrantes Palace, located in Jerez de la Frontera.

Built in the 19th century, allegedly by a French architect, it has housed the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art Foundation since its restoration in 1976.
