The 2025 romantic comedy Merv was primarily filmed in and around Wilmington, North Carolina, which doubled for both Boston and Florida.
Starring Zooey Deschanel and Charlie Cox, the movie revolves around a recently separated couple who —sign of the times— had a dog instead of children.

The Merv locations
The movie opens with an establishing shot, following the camera flying over a snowy, unnamed city.
We see the bell towers of Saint Mary of the Assumption Parish and Bethany Presbyterian Church in Brookline, Massachusetts.
Brookline is a suburban town bordering Boston, known for its historic homes and lively village centre.
Without the seams being visible, the camera smoothly lands about 800 miles south of there, in Wilmington, NC.
The ‘I Believe in Wilmington’ mural was covered with a sign reading ‘Quincy Lobster Co., Boston.’

This is Princess Street in downtown Wilmington, between 2nd and Front Streets.

The Merv Florida beach
The Sunnyside Motel in Florida is actually the Starlite Inn, a boutique inn in Carolina Beach located just a short walk from the sea.
This accommodation offers newly renovated, retro-styled rooms, with rates starting around $90 for basic rooms and reaching $200+ depending on room type and season.

The Sunnyside Dog Beach is actually Ocean Front Park in Kure Beach, located nearly three miles south of the motel.
The park sits beside the beautiful Kure Beach Pier, a local landmark originally built in the early 20th century, rebuilt multiple times over the years due to storm and hurricane damage.

The ferris wheel is at the Carolina Beach Boardwalk Amusement Park, located near the motel.

The dog-friendly restaurant is Hurricane Alley’s bar and grill, a lively waterfront spot in Carolina Beach.

This scene, set back in Massachusetts, was filmed once again on Princess Street in Wilmington.
In some earlier synopses of the film, the snow-covered winter city was set somewhere in Minnesota.

Two more establishing shots appear, the first featuring the Back Bay area with the Prudential Center on the right.
In the second, St. Stephen's Catholic Church in the North End, Boston’s Little Italy, can be seen.
Merv’s favorite park was filmed at Long Leaf Park in Wilmington.
The final zoom-out of the wooden bridge scene over the lake is —movie-magic— merged with a view of the Back Bay Fens in Boston’s Fenway–Kenmore neighborhood.
