Where was Pluribus filmed? The house and all the locations in Albuquerque

Posted by

Created by Vince Gilligan, Pluribus was filmed priamrily in New Mexico and Spain.

Gilligan, the mind behind Breaking Bad, chose to continue working with his crew in Albuquerque, the series’ primary filming location.

Carol Sturka and Zosia

The show stars Rhea Seehorn as Carol Sturka, a romance novelist who finds herself immune to a global outbreak that renders humanity an eternally cheerful hive‑mind.

Here is our (almost) spoiler-free guide to all the filming locations of Pluribus, listed in the order in which they first appear on screen.

The Pluribus locations

Pluribus location
The pilot, "We Is Us", opens at NRAO Very Large Array, one of the world’s most advanced radio astronomy observatories, located on the plains of San Agustín in New Mexico.

Also featured in Contact, the complex is made up of 27 giant dish antennas that operate together as a single massive telescope.

It may sound like someone just called it the “Very Large Array” because it’s… very large! But radio astronomers often use simple, descriptive names for major instruments. In science, the goal is clarity.

The Pluribus house

Pluribus house
Vince Gilligan chose to build the entire cul-de-sac where Carol and Helen live, including all the houses, from scratch.

In this way, the team avoided the issues they faced in earlier shows, where real neighbours were sometimes harassed by fans, while also gaining full creative control over the location.

The massive set was constructed on the edge of northwest Albuquerque, near a quiet residential area known as Vista Vieja.

Pirate Lady
The opening scene of the second episode, "Pirate Lady," set in Tangier, Morocco, was actually filmed in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Canary Islands.

The Sprouts Farmers Market in the third episode, "Grenade", is an actual grocery chain. The production used the Four Hills branch in Albuquerque.

Pluribus Darién Gap
The waterfall, canyon, and jungle scenes were filmed in Los Tilos Forest within the Parque Natural de las Nieves on the island of La Palma.

The name of the episode refers to the Darién Gap, a dangerous, roadless expanse of jungle, swamps, and mountains between Panama and Colombia that cuts the famous Pan-American Highway in two.

Rather than attempting the crossing, a far more reasonable option is to take a boat and travel by sea.

Episode 4: Vince mentioned on the official podcast that the opening exteriors were filmed at a real storage facility that led onto ABQ's 4th Street, near Vernon's Speakeasy from Episode 1. Had a look around, and I think this is the spot where Manousos is at the gate:
https://maps.app.goo.gl/diNEjLEqLx1PdckK6

The white wall on the right adds up as well as the garage in the far background. VFX or a set to cover up the houses on the left? Can't be entirely sure, though, but just my guess.

Forgot to add to my previous post, but the storage units being opened were most likely filmed at the Chamisa Self Storage lot on 4th Street.

The plane that takes off from Tangier at the beginning of episode two actually takes off from Belen Airport, a small town south of Albuquerque.

For comment 4: Belen Airport? Taxiway B4 is seen, and double eagle has a B4, but I don’t think Belen does. Plus, when the plane takes off, big power lines are seen, and there are big power lines just south of Double Eagle. What proof is there that it is Belen?

The building Carol drives to in episode 2 with the crane is Albuquerque’s First Baptist Church on Paseo del Norte.

Apple Maps has rather new pictures of Carol's neighbourhood. All the houses are pretty much finished, and Carols Garden seems to have the "grave": https://maps.apple/p/EdS5Sz~Y_F_xxS

The Oviedo Congress and Exhibitions Center in Asturias is not nicknamed "La Almeja”, but "El centollu" or "El cangrejo" (spider crab or crab in Asturian and Spanish, respectively).

Check out this Google Earth picture of Carol's cul-de-sac! It's pretty cool.

Great site! Quick correction: Milne Stadium is in Albuquerque, not Rio Rancho.

Also: 505 Marquette is now the PNC Bank Building, rather than Compass.

Both coffee shops- the one used in Mulholland Drive, and Milton's- were formerly Denny's, and that's why the architecture (and the shape of the sign) is very similar.

Episode 9. I think one of the vacation places where they go is Ha Long Bay in Vietnam.

Thank you so much for your article about Pluribus filming locations. In the far future, I was planning on taking a trip to New Mexico to see everything, and was dreading having to find all of the locations. Luckily, you all have found them already! Thank you so much again.

The credits for S1E9 suggested parts were filmed in Montana. The ski resort must have been filmed there.
