The original story, inspired by a traditional oral tale collected by Hans Christian Andersen in 1836, was set in Denmark.

However, this film has a Caribbean flair, both in its colors and architectural details.

Here is our spoiler-free guide to all the filming locations of The Little Mermaid. We’ve broken the movie down into the key sites, ordered by first appearance.

After a storm crashes the ship against the rocks, Ariel (played by Halle Bailey) rescues Eric (Jonah Hauer-King) and brings him to shore.

The Rena Majori beach in Aglientu, with its characteristic jagged rocks, is located in the north of Sardinia.

The Aglientu province is nestled between marine protected areas, with a pristine coast of white sand and blue waters.

Eric and Ariel at the house
The interior of the castle, the veranda, and other sets, including the boat and the entire underwater world, were all filmed at Pinewood Studios in England.

The walls of the house feature a distinctive Portuguese and Spanish blue painted tin glazed ceramic tile work called azulejo.

Castelsardo castle
The path outside the castle walls, which appears in several scenes, was also filmed in the grounds of the old Castelsardo fortress.

Perched atop a steep hill, this ancient castle is today a garden offering panoramic vistas of the surrounding landscape.

Cala Moresca Sardinia
As the local press reported, the fishermen's village and the scenes showing the surroundings of the pier were all shot in Cala Moresca.

This is a small, scenic bay located in the Cape Figari of the Golfo Aranci protected area, near Olbia.

Rena di Metteu beach
The rugged coastline between Cala Pischina and Rena di Metteu, also in the Aglientu area, served as the backdrop for the carriage ride scene with Ariel and Eric.

With its unspoiled shores and crystal clear waters, this tranquil cove is another hidden gem on this beautiful island.

The palm trees were added using digital effects in post-production.
