The house that Macaulay Culkin defended from robbers Harry and Marv (Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern) receives dozens of visitors throughout the day.

Some interior scenes were filmed on location in the house, including the kitchen on the first floor, the main staircase, the attic, and the spooky basement.

However, as big as the house was, the crew needed more space to film the stunts and the equipment.

Most of the rooms were recreated on a set built in a gymnasium and an empty swimming pool at the New Trier Township High School, located also in Winnetka.

Kevin's tree house in the backyard was built for the movie and removed after filming was completed.

For Kevin, his family has mysteriously disappeared just before Christmas.

After a miscount, the McCallisters left home in a hurry for O'Hare International Airport in Chicago.

Kevin runs away from the policeman to the Hubbard Woods Metra Station, which is across the park.

Grand Food Center Winnetka
According to Itsfilmedthere.com, the grocery store scene was the Grand Food Center at 606 Green Bay Road in Winnetka, which is quite close to the house.

After production began, Warner Bros. shut down the movie because they didn't want to spend more than $13.5 million.

In the end, Home Alone pulled in $476 million worldwide, becoming the third highest-grossing film in history at the time.
