The Yes Day Park and the Fleek Fest Filming Locations: Where was Yes Day filmed?

Posted by

Netflix's family-friendly comedy Yes Day was primarily filmed in Santa Clarita and Los Angeles. The idea is based on the 2009 bestselling children's book of the same name, written by Amy Krouse Rosenthal and illustrated by Tom Lichtenheld.

The story follows a California mom and dad whose authoritarian parenting style makes them say no to everything, deciding to allow their three children to have a 'Yes Day' for the next 24 hours only.

As you might imagine, the kids will take the chance to go beyond the everyday limitations unleashing chaos, and breaking as many rules as they can.

The cast is headed by Jennifer Garner (Daredevil, 13 Going on 30) as Allison Torres and Édgar Ramírez (American Crime Story, The Undoing) as his husband Carlos Torres. Jenna Ortega (who starred as Wednesday in the Netflix series) plays the revel teenage daughter Katie Torres, who wants to attend the fictional Fleek Fest.

We still have a few gaps on our Yes Day filming locations list; Here is our positive spoiler-free report:

Yes Day house
The first scenes of the family driving the car were filmed in the Alta Vista neighborhood of Valencia, the city adjacent to Santa Clarita.

The screenshot pictured was filmed at Alta Vista Ave and El Molina Avenue. The Torres dictatorship regime family house may be located nearby in the area.

Asian ice cream parlor drehorte
There is a short sequence with the car passing through Wilshire Boulevard in Koreatown in Los Angeles.

This is a huge clue to finding the teddy bear ice cream parlor where the family has the massive $40 sundae. The cast complained that they had to eat a ton of ice cream on the first day of filming! Can you help us to find it?

Car Wash Googie style
The next ordeal is the open-air windows-down car wash. The scene was filmed at the Premier Car Wash in Encino.

This is a great example of a Googie-style car wash, from a time when the cult of automobiles led to the construction of monumental auto wash services featuring bright signs and colorful pillars.

Ravenswood Adventure Park
The fictional Ravenswood Adventure Park, where the 'Kablowey' flag competition scene takes place, was filmed at Hahamongna Watershed Park in South Pasadena.

Yes Day park
The Yes Day amusement park with the large roller coaster is the Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, Santa Clarita.

Hosting up to 19 roller coasters, Magic Mountain holds the world record for most roller coasters in a theme park. The one that the Torres family rides is the iconic Twisted Colossus, the world's longest racing coaster (on nearly 5,000 feet (1,500 m) of track), where two trains are in a race against each other.

Opened in 2015 after refurbishing the old Colossus built in 1978, the attraction features a near-vertical drop, steep drops, banking curves, and two inversions.

Filming the roller coaster scene
Actress Jennifer Garner, who plays Allison the mom, had to face her biggest fear: roller-coasters.

She said in an interview that the fear on her face filming the roller coaster scene was real. "I cried during it, between takes, I got off my knees and was knocking, saying, ‘Please don’t tell me we have to do it again".

Throughout its long history, the park appeared as a filming location in many productions including NCIS, Entourage, The Bionic Woman, The A-Team, Knight Rider, Beverly Hills 90210, Melrose Place, The King of Queens, This Is Spinal Tap, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Fleek Fest stage park
The Fleek Fest was filmed at the Starlight Bowl in Burbank. Nestled in the Verdugo Mountains, this outdoor entertainment venue with picnic areas has been featuring summer concerts and family shows since 1992.
