Set in the fictional town of Winport, Run Away was filmed in and around Manchester and Liverpool in Northern England.

Every new year brings a fresh Netflix crime thriller adapted from a Harlan Coben novel.

Where is Run Away filmed

James Nesbitt stars as Simon Greene, a father searching for the truth after his teenage daughter, Paige (Ellie de Lange), disappears, uncovering dark secrets along the way.

The Lanford University

Lanford University
The fictional Lanford University was filmed across up to five different locations.

The main campus in Childwall at Liverpool Hope University served as the introductory and aerial shot.

With roots dating back to the 19th century, the campus boasts Victorian and Edwardian buildings, many constructed in red brick in the Gothic Revival style.

St Bede’s College
The hall in the first episode, "Seeing Is Believing", is from St Bede’s College in Whalley Range, south of Manchester.

Founded in 1876, the campus of this Roman Catholic independent school features a mix of Victorian buildings and modern facilities.

Lanford College
But the interior courtyard and corridors were filmed at the historic campus of the University of Manchester, located on Oxford Road.

Designed in the late 19th century, the Old Quad is known for its stunning Victorian architecture.

In one scene in the fourth episode, Simon is at Whitworth Hall, also on the University of Manchester main campus.

St John's Gardens Manchester
Also in the fourth episode, the Lanford University campus was filmed at St John's Gardens, near the Science and Industry Museum in Manchester.

Oddfellows Hall
In another scene, Simon is at Oddfellows Hall, a 19th-century Grade II listed building with mosaics and stained-glass windows.

Part of the University of Manchester’s heritage buildings, it was recently refurbished and renovated as an event venue.

The Run Away house

Run Away house
According to producer Guy Hescott, the Greene family’s home was an Edwardian manor in Altrincham, about 8 miles south-west of Manchester.

However, most of the interiors were filmed at another location near Alderley Edge.

The park where Simon sees Paige is Alexandra Park in Oldham, a Victorian public park opened in 1875.

Bank Street Police Station
The Bank Street Police Station, with the large staircase, is the Manchester Crown Court on Crown Square, close to the city centre.

Completed in 1962, this mid-20th-century Modernist complex was built in an area of Spinningfields that had workshops and factories damaged during the Manchester Blitz in 1940.

The café where private investigator Elena Ravenscroft (played by Ruth Jones) has the dog is Minna, a brunch restaurant near Sefton Park in Liverpool.

Maria's vegan restaurant Finch & Leaf in Rosegate is Evelyn's, a casual brunch spot in Manchester's Northern Quarter.

However, the exterior of Simon's company offices, with a glass façade, is Chancery Place on Brown Street in Manchester city centre.

Marinduque estate
The Marinduque estate in Winport is located in a neighbourhood in Dukinfield, not as shabby as it appears in the series.

As producer Guy Hescott explained to Manchester Evening News, the area is actually very clean and well looked after, so the team created all the graffiti there.

The Marinduque Union is the former Dukinfield Home and Community Hub building, located nearby in the same area.

The Irving Hospital

Irving Hospital
The Saint Irving Hospital in Winport was filmed at Alderley Park Science Park, a former pharmaceutical research campus in Cheshire, south of Manchester.

DartHorpe
Sebastian Thorpe's white mansion was filmed in a large Georgian estate in Prestbury, Cheshire.

Featured in The Real Housewives of Cheshire, the house, with a state-of-the-art contemporary interior, sits on about two acres of landscaped gardens.

Tattoos While U Wait
The Tattoos While U Wait parlour is actually Forever True Tattoo in the Central ward of Liverpool City Centre.

As seen in the shot, the parlour has two accesses, with the main entrance on Cheapside Street and a back door on Hockenhall Alley.

Ned's Diner
Ned's Diner is the Rivington Pub near the Rivington Reservoirs in Lancashire, located about an hour’s drive east of Liverpool.

The Slaughter House Pub
The guitar scene with Sam (Adrian Greensmith) was filmed at The Slaughter House Pub in central Liverpool.

After it, Sam gets a call on Water Street, just a few blocks from the pub.

The Corval Inn
The Corval Inn in the third episode, "Breaking Point", is The Farm at Tatton Park in Cheshire, a working Victorian farm open to visitors.

Part of the wider Tatton Park estate, the farm features heritage breeds of animals, traditional farm buildings, and demonstrations showing how farming was carried out in the 19th century.

Great Western Inn Saddleworth Moor
The pub that seems to be in the middle of nowhere is the old Great Western Inn near Marsden in West Yorkshire.

This was one of many inns that served travellers on Manchester Road in the Saddleworth Moor area during the 19th century, as roads expanded through the region.

Beacon Of the Shining True
The Beacon Of the Shining True compound was filmed at Thornbridge Hall in Derbyshire, close to Bakewell in the Peak District.

This private estate, with a long history dating back to the 12th century, is today a private family home that can be rented as a venue for events, including weddings.

In the fifth episode, "Forever Be The Shining Truth", the beauty salon scenes were filmed at Townhouse Nail Salon on Manchester’s King Street.

Elena arrives at the historic heart of Stockport town centre, Market Place.

The adoption agency office is in Merchants House, directly opposite the beautiful Victorian Market Hall, which serves as a backdrop for the scene where she is spying on the agency director.

Trierfell
Elena travels to the fictional town of Trierfell looking for the Ideal Retreat Holiday Homes agency.

This sequence was filmed in a coworking space called Profolk, also near the Market Hall in Stockport.

Castlefield Historical Zone pedestrian bridge
The knife scene was filmed on a small pedestrian bridge beneath the Castlefield viaducts in Manchester.

Once a bustling industrial centre in the 18th and 19th centuries, the Castlefield Historical Zone has evolved into a lively urban quarter, featuring historic warehouses and small footbridges linking the canals.

The Man I Knew
In the sixth episode, "The Man I Knew", when Alex calls Elena, they are actually just a few metres apart.

Elena is on St Peter’s Gate Bridge in Stockport, while Alex is on the staircase leading down to Little Underbank Passage.

Brookebridge University
The Brookebridge University is the Samuel Alexander Building at the University of Manchester.

Opened in 1919, with its grand stone façade and central portico, the building originally housed the university’s arts faculties.

In the seventh episode, "Sliding Doors", a scene was filmed outside Ship Canal House and Atlas Chambers on King Street, Manchester.

Park Green Lookout Café
The Park Green Lookout Café was filmed in the Sefton Park Palm House, a stunning Victorian glasshouse in Liverpool, which in reality has no café or bar service.

Built in 1896, its elegant iron-and-glass design makes it one of the city’s most iconic historic landmarks.

Lane 7 is a bowling alley and entertainment venue, featuring its signature graffiti walls.

The one featured in the series seems to be the central Manchester branch, although they also have locations in Liverpool and Altrincham.

Depot Mayfield
The Archive space at Depot Mayfield in central Manchester appears in the season finale, "It Stays With Us".

This large, multi‑use event and cultural venue is housed within the cavernous spaces of the city’s former Mayfield railway depot.

Peover Hall Cheshire
Peover Hall, a historic Jacobean manor house located in Cheshire, appears in one of the last scenes filmed on location.

Surrounded by formal gardens, parkland, and lakes, it dates back to the 17th century and is today open to the public for weddings and tours.
