The Sinners city

In the first scene, young Sammie Moore walks into his father’s church, filmed at Laurel Valley Plantation in Thibodaux.
This is the largest intact 19th–20th-century sugar plantation complex in the U.S., where up to 135 enslaved people lived and worked before the Civil War.

However, the church was a set built for the film on the same plantation, created by production designer Hannah Beachler.
Inspired by real Delta-era structures, the roof’s crossed wooden beams subtly echo the “Wakanda Forever” gesture, a quiet tribute to the late Black Panther actor, Chadwick Boseman.

The sawmill and the juke joint serve as the film’s central locations, both built at the former Hidden Oaks Golf Course in Braithwaite.
Director Ryan Coogler was looking for a site with a water feature nearby, and location manager Elston Howard knew about the overgrown course, which had been closed in 2006, shortly after Hurricane Katrina struck the region.

As the local press reported, Donaldsonville’s historic Railroad Avenue was transformed into 1930s Clarksdale, where twins Smoke and Stack Moore go to buy supplies.
The Black Bird Café was set in a former diner, while the store was a vacant antiques shop with a brick façade.

With a bit of CGI help, the Clarksdale train station was recreated at the old Bogalusa Train Depot.
Built in 1907, this depot, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, served the lumber-driven New Orleans Great Northern Railroad.

The Sinners house

As NOLA.com revealed, Annie’s house was built on the grounds of Creedmoor Plantation in St. Bernard Parish, a sugar-growing estate established in the 1810s.
