The story follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, played by Iñaki Godoy, and his infamous pirate crew as they explore the oceans in search of a legendary treasure called One Piece.
The original Japanese anime TV series has been running since 1999 for 20 seasons (or arks) and more than 1,000 episodes.
Here is our spoiler-free guide to the few filming locations of One Piece, including some of the places in Italy that served as inspiration for the show.
The One Piece Locations

22 years before the main events of One Piece, the so-called King of the Pirates, Gold Roger, is about to be executed by the Marines in Loguetown.
As you can see in the picture, the harbor of the town is the seafront of a real location, the beautiful coastal town of Sorrento in Campania, Italy.
On the left is the Imperial Hotel Tramontano and on the right is Villa Astor overlooking the Bay of Naples.

The rest of Loguetown's main square is a CGI creation. But, where have you seen the World Government building before?
The facade is clearly inspired by the Florentine Gothic style, with examples such as the Florence Cathedral (lower picture) or the Basilica of Santa Croce.
The guys in the art department even included two mini Filippo Brunelleschi's domes on top of the palace.

Shells Town, the headquarters of the 153rd Marine Branch, is essentially the picturesque seaside village Positano on the Amalfi Coast, also in Italy.
The Marines' fortress was CGI'd on top of this town known for its colorful cliffside buildings overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.

Most of the series was filmed on the sound stages of the Cape Town Film Studios in South Africa.
Some scenes were filmed in the deep-water tank on the right, where the sets for The Going Merry, Miss Love Duck boat and The Baratie exterior were built.

Showrunner Matt Owens commented on the behind-the-scenes clip that they built several massive sets with a great level of detail to bring the world of One Piece to life.
The spectacular Baratie Dining Room and Arlong's Map Room were painstakingly recreated on a soundstage.
One Piece Second Season Locations

The scenes in the streets of Loguetown in the second season were filmed on a massive set built at the studios.
In the second episode, "Good Whale Hunting", there is a scene with the Marines filmed in the Dolphin Pool, the 17th-century inner courtyard of the Castle of Good Hope in Cape Town.

The Little Garden Island

The dangerous prehistoric island in the fourth episode, Little Garden, was filmed at Paarl Rock, the iconic granite outcrop dominating Paarl Mountain Nature Reserve in Western Cape.
This massive granite formation, similar to the famous Uluru in Australia, is a popular hiking and rock climbing area.

The bridge on the Isle of Renaisse featured in the sixth episode, "Nami Dearest", is located near the Berg River Dam near Franschhoek, Western Cape.

The interior of the palace in Drum Kingdom is St. George's Cathedral in Cape Town.
Built from Table Mountain sandstone between 1906 and 1936, the structure features Neo-Gothic architecture inspired by London designs and numerous stained-glass windows.

The Drum Castle exterior is clearly inspired by the iconic 19th-century Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria, Germany.
This picturesque 19th-century fairytale palace, perched on a rugged hill, inspired Disney's Sleeping Beauty Castle with its romantic architecture and breathtaking views, making it one of Europe's top tourist draws.

The cast is led by Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Emily Rudd as Nami, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Jacob Gibson as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji.

By the way, as a part of the One Piece community, we don't like to say seasons for different parts of the show but arks. Not seasons, arks, thank you.
