The 'Ghosts of War' House Filming Location

Nazis, ghosts, and a haunted house. Ghosts of War tells the story of five American soldiers holding a castle in the Nazi-occupied France in 1944.

The commando will soon realize that they're not alone in the chateau when they begin to experience inexplicable events.

Ghosts of War was filmed in Bulgaria. The magnificent mansion featured in the movie is located on the outskirts of the capital city, Sofia.

Here is the filming location of the movie that was released on the streaming platform DirecTV.

The French countryside chateau and former headquarters of the Nazi high command is the Vrana Palace (Царски дворец Врана).

This former royal palace is today the official residence of former Tsar Simeon II of Bulgaria.

The palace complex works as a park museum (the large gardens are home to over 400 plant species) and is open to the public only on weekends.

Unfortunately, the historical interiors of the house are off-limits to visitors.

The facade of the stately home was CGI'd in the movie. However, the manor in the background with the spectral family pictured in the poster of the film is the original one.

The main cast is led by Brenton Thwaite, Skylar Astin, Kyle Gallner, Alan Ritchson, Shaun Toub, and Billy Zane.

The interiors of the house were probably made in a set at Nu Boyana Studios in Sofia, where the production was hosted.

Built between 1912 and 1914, its design has little to do with a French villa, although the exterior facade has some typical features of French classicism.

The palace combines Bulgarian National Revival traditions like Plovdiv baroque, Byzantine influences, with some Art Nouveau.
