Where was The Outsider filmed? Guide to ALL the Filming Locations

Posted by

The new HBO limited series is an adaptation of a horror mystery novel recently published in 2018 by prolific author Stephen King.

The Outsider was filmed primarily in Georgia, and it's also set here, in Cherokee Creek (or Cherokee City, as some characters mentioned in the show). Some additional scenes were also set and filmed in New York City.

The series revolves around police detective Ralph Anderson, building a case against local teacher and baseball coach Terry Maitland, who looks absolutely guilty of the horrifying murder of a young boy.

However, after publicly arresting Maitland, the investigation quickly goes wrong. Ralph will bring in unorthodox private investigator Holly Gibney, who will try to help to explain the unexplainable. Meanwhile, a creepy hooded masked man follows the developments of the case from a distance.

We won't give up on the research of the filming locations where The Outsider was filmed. Stay tuned for updates on this page!

Where was The Outsider filmed
The small suburb of Winder (east of Atlanta), doubles as the town of Cherokee Creek, where large sections of The Outsider are set.

The Cherokee County Courthouse is the Barrow County Historic Courthouse. Some footage showing the city where the action takes place is also from Winder.

The coco bar in New York
Mr. McGoo's pub from episode four 'Que Viene el Coco' is a real bar located at 5602 Broadway, in the middle of Bronx's Kingsbridge.

The filmmakers photoshopped the exterior signs, as you can check in the image. This place is a kind of community wall art decor bar with a patio for events and live music.

Holly Gibney is played by Cynthia Erivo (Bad Times at the El Royale, Harriet). Richard Price, the writer of acclaimed series like The Wire, The Night Of and The Deuce, is also involved in this project.

    4. You're welcome. I have quite a few locations from this show mapped on Google Earth that I've been working on. I did this same thing when True Detective came out. Love doing this with shows that I'm really into. Take care.

  4. Scenes from episode 1 were filmed around the Candler Park area of Atlanta. Frankie Peterson’s body is found in the woods underneath the Michael Polak bridge where Ponce De Leon Ave crosses over Lullwater Creek, and the man who discovers the body while walking his dog is filmed on the Freedom Park Trail.

    1. Do you know where the van was parked also? I see similar stones at Lullwater Pl NE, but that does not seem to look right. Or the parking where the cops have their cars parked?

    2. I don’t know where the van was parked - very curious about that location. My guess is that the parking where the cops have their cars parked is the driveway from McLendon Ave leading into the Candler Park parking area (next to the soccer fields and pool).
