Guide to ALL the Jumanji The Next Level Locations: Where was Jumanji 2 filmed?

Posted by

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Karen Gillian, Kevin Hart, and Jack Black are back for the sequel to the blockbuster hit referred to as Jumanji 2 by some, or as Jumanji 3 if you count the 1995 movie with Robin Williams as the first in the franchise.

Jumanji: The Next Level was filmed in Georgia, Hawaii, and California like its predecessor, incorporating New Mexico and Alberta (Canada) to the filming locations list. Studio work was done at Blackhall Studios in Atlanta.

Joining the cast are Danny DeVito (Spencer's grandfather Eddie, who ends up in the game playing as Dr. Bravestone), Danny Glover (playing Franklin Finbar), rapper Awkwafina (who starred Crazy Rich Asians), and Rory McCann (Sandor “The Hound” Clegane from Game of Thrones). Jake Kasdan also returns to direct.

The in-game universe is expanding beyond the jungle. In The Next Level, the characters are switching roles and exploring from arid deserts to snow-capped mountains, to escape the lethal fantasy board game.

Newnan and Atlanta, Georgia

Nora bar location in Newnan Local media reported that winter scenes were filmed around the main square in downtown Newnan, doubling for Brantford in New Hampshire.

The shoot was set at 19 West Court Square and 8 East Washington Street, where the fictional Nora's dinner was located.

The 2018 movie, also starring Jack Black, The House with a Clock in Its Walls and the HBO series Watchmen were also shot on the nicely preserved period streets of this picturesque city.

The Locations in Oahu, Hawaii

Jumanji 2 shooting in Hawaii Reel News Hawaii reported that the cast and crew were filming back in Hawaii on Oahu island.

They set up in the exact same location as they did for the last movie in the jungle at the falls of Waimea Valley. This is also the same spot where the group first entered the game in Welcome to the Jungle and Jack Black (Professor Sheldon) got eaten by a Hippo.

Also, a unit mounted a buggy on a hydraulic gimbal surrounded by a blue screen in a parking lot at Kalaeloa Airport, to film reaction shots for the dune chase.

Glamis Sand Dunes, California

Desert dunes scene The Glamis Imperial Sand Dunes (aka Algodones Dunes or the sand-toy capital of the world), is a recreation area in the desert where you can surf or ride a dune onboard a buggy. Jumanji took over the Osborne Lookout.

Film crews built a set with many old scattered vehicles rotting under the scorching sun. This location was used in 1983 Star Wars: Return of the Jedi to shoot the Sarlacc Pit battle.

A portion of the movie was also shot using the iconic Shiprock on the Navajo Nation as background for the action.

The scene where Dr. Xander "Smolder" Bravestone and Franklin "Mouse" Finbar have a fight was filmed here.

The production took advantage of the new film incentives law to shoot in New Mexico, as reported by local news channel KFOX.

Mount James Walker, Canada

castle mountain scenes Jumanji 3 also filmed scenes on top of a glacier, in Mount James Walker (Kananaskis Valley, Canadian Rockies).

The mysterious Jurgen the Brutal stronghold nestled in Mount Zhatmire's rock was CGI'd into this magnificent mountain.

The natural beauty of this region is very much appreciated by filmmakers. Also, big-budget productions like Cold Pursuit, War for the Planet of the Apes, or the acclaimed 2016 movie The Revenant, were recorded here.

Bonus Filming Location: Zhangjiajie, China

monkeys bridge scene There is a sequence where the troupe faces hundreds of mandrill monkeys and the mobile liana bridges.

The stone pillars are inspired by the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park in Hunan Province, as the shoot was all done with green screens and CGI.

Framed in a subtropical forest setting, the spikes are the result of many centuries of physical erosion.

This pinnacle landscape, surrounded by lush vegetation, became popular after the release of 2009's Avatar. James Cameron's film featured this scenery transformed into the floating Hallelujah Mountains.

The information for where Jurgen the Brutal’s stronghold was CGIEd on top of Gusty Peak is not correct. The photo clearly shows Mount James Walker as the summit that the castle was CGIed on. Gusty Peak, is not even in the image (neither is The Fortress Mountain) both are out of view and to the right (north) of Mount James Walker.

Fortress Mountain (and the old, abandoned Fortress ski hill) is visible in the final in-game scene, as the characters hand over the jewel and say their goodbyes.
