Where was Beauty and the Beast filmed?

The new live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast is based on the 1991 Disneys animated film, a story as old as time. The movie brings the romance to life using the most advanced technology, blending spectacular CGI with real world places and actors.

The cast is lead by Hollywood stars Emma Watson and Dan Stevens, and includes celebrities like Ewan McGregor, Luke Evans, Ian McKellen, Emma Thompson and Josh Gad.

Beauty and the Beast was filmed mostly on the soundstages and backlot at Shepperton Studios in UK. However, we go behind the scenes to find the real life places of inspiration for a timeless tale, set in 18th century France:

Beauty and the Beast filming locations
The floor in the ballroom follows the pattern in the ceiling of Braunau in Rohr Abbey, a Benedictine monastery in Rohr in Niederbayern (Bavaria, Germany). The big chandeliers are like the ones at the Palace of Versailles in France.
